It is true that the development of science and technology has greatly improved the quality of life, promoted human wellbeing and extended life expectancy. Despite these tremendous benefits, science and technology can never replace the critical role of arts in life, which will be discussed in this essay.
Artworks in any forms have their own cultural values. Through paintings, sculptures, and drawings, we can see the life, hopes, and history of a certain period in the past. For example, images of Vietnam Dong Son drum tell us the normal life and difficulties of a each stage of the development in their history. These artworks give visitors a better understanding of cultural richness in Southeast Asian nations. Though technology may spread the information and images of the kettledrum, real experience is something that cannot be brought by technology.
Addition to cultural values, the contributions of arts bring spiritual values to social life. Many novels, for example, offer the great importance to working hard, treating others with respect. Songs with melodies and lyrics tell people to treasure their lives. Especially, while some patients have suffered dangerous disease without hopes, music becomes their weapon against the boredom in life. Arts in some way bring the happiness and fortitude for people to live a better and more meaningful life when they are getting in trouble.
In conclusion, arts is an important field with intangible values. Although science and technology are beneficial for life, a wider range of aspects that only arts can bring to social life.
