Some British families decide not to buy televisions because they influence the development of creativity to children. What do you think?
With the rapid development of technology, television has become a common household device. But nowadays, a few British parents made decision not to invest on televisions for fear of its effects to the growth of children’s creativity. While the disadvantages of televisions are undeniable, I would argue that children should be encouraged to watch television with the observation their upbringers.
The main shortcoming of television is that it hinders children’s imagination ability. Story presented in a book is not visually illustrated as a movie and it also takes longer to read a book. Thus, children tend to watch TV shows rather than enjoying a book. Moreover, without the restriction of parents, children may encounter violence, crimes and pornography contents which are not suitable to their age group.
On the other hand, television serves as a valuable source for children’s learning. TV programs are appealing to children of all ages, rendering lessons more interesting and straightforward. The young generation would be well-informed about knowledge of world: geography, science, news, … which are not usually taught in academic environment. In addition, English programs have also been utilized by Vietnamese parents to improve their children’s language skills.
In conclusion, creativity capability of children is undoubtedly affected by television. But in my opinion, TV programs also has the potential of aiding children in learning applicable knowledge. I believe that the government should do their utmost to prohibit unhealthy contents on TV while parents ought to include television as a studying supplement for their children.
