Nowadays, more and more people decide to have children later in their life. What are the reasons? What are the effects on society and family life?

Giving birth to children at a later point of time in life has been a trend in modern-day life. The motives and the influences this exerts on society and family will now be discussed below.

At the outset, there are a great many of factors behind this glaring situation, but for the most part, it seems to some people that only by having babies later in life are they able to find time to fulfill their desires in life. Indeed, they would have downtime either to enjoy their leisure pursuits like tennis, swimming and running which might be strenuous for them once they are pregnant, or to take some vocational courses or devote their energy at work in order to move up the corporate ladder and be highly-valued workers, which may guarantees a bright future for themselves and their babies as well. To clarify, there are an upward trend in old pregnant women in developed countries like the United States and French since they are more wary of the astronomical fees they may have to face after giving birth to their children.

Turning to the impact this trend brings along, it goes without saying that there have been a significant number of old mothers and babies being prone to serious health-related repercussions. As for the women, it has been widely known that the older they get, the more likely it is for them to face with diseases like diabetes, high blood pressure and joint problems, putting them in jeopardy while delivering their children and impeding them to provide a good healthcare for those babies. Besides, proven with experiments conducted by prodigious worldwide scientists, babies that are born by aged mothers are more likely to suffer from Down’s syndrome, bringing an absolute tragedy for families and a burden for communities. Consequently, authorities in big cities like New York, London, and Tokyo have proposed incentives to ensure women to have babies before reaching the age of 35.

For some individual and economical reasons, a number of spouses have come to the decision of giving birth later in life, regardless of its dire consequences on families and societies.
