In today’s world of advanced science and technology, we still greatly value our artists such as musicians, painters and writers. What can arts tell us about life that science and technology cannot?

Despite the advance of science and technology, our artists such as musicians, painters and writers are still recognizable. Personally, I believe that arts can reflect many aspects of life that science and technology are unable to do.

To begin with, arts are an integral part of countries’ culture as they transmit social memes and the aesthetic values of cultural tradition. Each artwork is profoundly influenced by the time it was created and its social background. Artists usually draw their inspiration from them. Hence, arts present the social patterns and cultural norms at the time it was created. Furthermore, artworks bring with its historical values, reminding us of the past. For example, Pablo Picasso’s Guernica painting was created during the Spanish civil war. It shows the tragedies of war and the suffering it inflicts upon individuals, evoking the vicissitudes of Spanish history. This is the aspects that science and technology cannot transmit because they are produced based on intelligence, rather than emotion.

Furthermore, arts also a way of connecting people. It is a special language that does not require in-depth or academic knowledge to understand. Therefore, arts can transcend national frontiers and generations of people, strengthening a sense of connection between different regions. In contrast, science and technology demand people to have professional and academic abilities to understand them. Therefore, in this area, these modern advance cannot bear comparison with the arts.

In conclusion, in the scientific and technological era, arts still play a fundamental role in our society as it not only present our cultural and historical values but also bride the gap between different cultures.
