Topic: In the modern world, it is no longer necessary to use animals as food or other products, such as medicines and clothing. Do you agree or disagree?
My essay:
It is suggested that the demand for living animals as a source of food and other daily necessities such as medicines and clothing is no longer so urgent in this modern society. To a certain extent, I agree with this statement.
There is no doubt that governments and individuals are making a worldwide effort to reduce animal uses. On an international scale, strict legislations have been put in place to outlaw illegal poaching and commercial trades in animal-derived products such as rhino horn and elephant ivory. Furthermore, no one could neglect the fact that veganism has gained increasing popularity in recent years. There are more and more people embracing plant-based diets to protect the environment as well as animal rights. By cutting back on meat consumption, we are taking a further step towards phasing out the unethical killing and usage of animals.
However, alternatives to animal-based products may not be always a better choice. For many having grown accustomed to eating meat, there is no substitute for the convenience of protein-based food items which can be found in abundance at local stores and markets. What is more, despite advances made in science and technology, animals still have a significant role to play in the medical field as well as the fashion industry. Although today’s AI systems are capable of providing scientific results with a higher degree of accuracy, mice and rabbits are still considered as fundamental laboratory subjects when it comes to testing drugs for safer use. Also, with fur coats and leather shoes being predominantly worn by people from higher social classes, other synthetic options often seem to be pale in value from their perspective.
To sum up, while I tend towards the idea that measures can be taken to ease the suffering of animals, I believe that the world still largely depend on animal-based products to thrive on a regular basis.
It is sometimes suggested that the demand for living animals should not be used as a source of food and other daily necessities such as medicin e, or and clothing is no longer so urgent in this modern society. To a certain extent, I agree with this statement. There is no doubt that governments and individuals are making progress in the a worldwide effort to reduce the use of anima l s in various industries .
