Writing task 2: agree - disagree

Task 2: Families who send their children to private schools should NOT be required to pay taxes that support the state education system.

To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

Households who have their children educated in private institutions should be free from paying taxes that fund the educational system of their country. Taxes and government fundings are supposed to bring welfare to the entire population, not just for a group of people. Thus, I strongly believe that parents who have their children privately educated are free from paying state educational taxes.

The first reason why taxes for state education system is inappropriate for families who apply for their children to a private institution is financial burden. From the financial standpoint, parents who let children study in public school benefit greatly from the low school fees, free infrastructure, and monthly supported payment. On the other hand, despite providing a better environment for students to study in, private schools also cost higher than public education. Nonetheless, many parents are willing to pay an extra amount of money for their children to have a chance to study privately. Without acknowledging the cost that these parents already have to pay, the act of enforcing them to pay for an education system that their children do not benefit from is both unfair and unjust.

Also related to the first reason, another factor that we have to consider is responsibility. If everyone has to pay for the educational taxes then parents with children study privately will have to have extra responsibilities with the government such as tracking public school spending budget, participate in local meeting on educational issues. Thus, these parents are certain to take a role of dual responsibilities. On one hand, they have to take part in activities in the private school; and on the other, dealing with responsibilities that rooted from paying for the educational taxes that they don’t need.

In conclusion, I totally agree that parents with children participate in private education are free from paying state educational taxes. With the financial burden and extra responsibility that come with taxing, these parents are being mistreated and unable to benefit from the freedom that they deserved.
