Writing task 2 -2

Topic 18: It is more important for school children to learn about local history than world history. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Answer:

People have different views about the importance of learning local history in consideration with the world history. Although some individuals believe that studying exotic history is unnecessary, I would argue that the combination of two would give learners a deeper understanding of history.

On the one hand, I can understand those who are in favor of the view that teaching national history have an essential role to play as this knowledge would enhance young citizen’s patriotism. For example, is known that a large number of heroes in the past sacrificed their lives to defeat strong invaders like America, Japan for such an independent nation, students can take pride their patriotic traditions over a thorough flow of time and make more efforts to develop their own country. Additionally, it is indisputable that each citizen has a responsibility to learn about the past of their ancestors.

On the other hand, I agree that learning domestic history should be placed parallel to world history to get the insights. It is a fact that many historical events in individual nations based on the global background to succeed. Take Vietnam as a telling example. The surrender of Japan to the Allies made a significant contribution to the success of the milestone in Vietnam’s war that Vietnam regained its dependence after defeating Japan troops in Indochina in 1945.Moreover, in the globalized world, there is an increasing number of foreign workers who migrate to other countries for several purposes like a better job, cleaner environment; therefore, knowledge about the history of several nations is beneficial to well cooperate in the workplace.

In conclusion, I am strongly convinced that we should put learning local and international history in an equal measure of the importance.
