Writing task 2

Children are now less active in their free time than in the past. Therefore, sports lessons must be compulsory in schools. To what extent do you agree or disagree ?

Some people believe that children should be forced to exercise in schools because of the fact that they are getting lazy and lethargic during these recent years. I somewhat disagree with this statement for several reasons.

In my point of view sports being mandatory is not exactly a prospective idea because of so many factors. First and foremost, procuring its equipment and inaugurating sport facilities can come at a huge cost. Specially with the fact that so many countries are undergoing bad conditions such as inflation, economic stagnation and so on. Secondly, punishing children who’s not going to obey is another issue that will ensue. In addition, some educational places might get so strict about this and contemplate corporal punishment for disobedient students. Finally, if it becomes compulsory, this might cause medical problems for some teenagers and they would show reluctance toward it.

But is it really that bad? I’d have to mention the fact that there are a few reasons that make it practical and productive. One reason is that it can improve young people’s mental and physical well-being as much as it may cause medical diseases for some of them. Furthermore, since they are getting more and more isolated and shunned by society, some activities that require teamwork help them learn to be more disciplined and sociable. Moreover, as it was mentioned before, it might provide children enough impetus to abandon their sedentary lives.

In conclusion, in my vantage point enforcing students to exercise only because of them not being so active is not an ideal programme.
