WRITING TASK 2

Some people think job satisfaction is more important than job security, while others believe that having a permanent job is better than enjoying the job. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

Nowadays, in light of the variety of careers offered, seeking for the right jobs is often seen as a tough decision. Therefore, people remain divided on whether having a stable career or finding contentment in the workplace would be of greater importance. To my mind, a balance between job security and satisfaction would bring the meaning of life.

On the one hand, proponents of fixed jobs are likely to belong to the younger generation. Given that young people are often inexperienced and less affluent than the older ones, job security allows them to meet basic human needs such as housing and medication. Only when they could feed their families properly could they concern which jobs are more enjoyable than others. Moreover, regarding the underprivileged, they are under financial pressure, which in turn deprives them of the desire to pursue job satisfaction, since the livelihood depends on a more stable source of income. Thus, being under the poverty line means that one often forego their dreams and participate in a more lucrative career and to earn a good living.

On the other hand, as people age, basic needs are usually covered. It would, therefore, make no sense to push harder just for the sake of gaining more. Although making income is crucial to surviving in the modern days, a loss of job satisfaction correlates with eschewing valuable moments in life. Furthermore, being satisfactory when working enhances the level of job performance. Consequently, workers would effortlessly climb the career ladder, and gradually the job would become a concrete income source.

In sum, while having a permanent career seems justified at young ages, it is true that many also favor job contentment. From my perspective, both security and enjoyment at work might be considered at the same time to achieve work-life balance.
