Task 2: The use of mobile phones is as antisocial as smoking. Smoking is banned in certain places so mobile phones should be banned like smoking. To what extend do you agree or disagree?
In recent decades, there has been a growing trend of taking mobile phones to everywhere in the world due to the enhancement of technologies. Although it has some negative effects, I totally disagree that we should prohibit mobile phones in the same way as smoking.
There are a number of benefits to using mobile phones which smoking can not have. First, mobile phones are the most convenient as well as inexpensive ways to keep contact with other people. In fact, as a result of the industrial revolution, we do not have to use letters, which cost lots of money, time, and effort, to have communication with our relatives or friends. Second, mobile phones are the basis for every social network such as Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter. Therefore, nowadays it’s really easy to find new friends oversea which suggesting an insignificant causal relationship between mobile phones and antisocial behaviors.
There are numerous reasons why mobile phones do not antisocial as much as smoking. First, nicotine in smoke can negatively affect users’ health in contrast to mobile phones which do not emit any toxic chemicals. For example, while 70% of people who were diagnosed with lung cancer used cigarettes for a long time, just a few accidents in the world have mobile phones as the main factor. Second, in public zones, smoking is the main detriment of disturbing others while people usually careless mobile phone users. In fact, using mobile phones in public places is one of the best ways to keep silent which showing the civility of them.
In conclusion, since mobile phones have nothing to do with antisocial effects, they should not be banned. I believe that the net advantage of mobile phones is too high to consider banning.
