Writing task 2

Some schools have restricted the use of mobile phones. Is this a positive development or a negative one

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Mobile phones are ubiquitous in the world now, even a six or seven years old child has his own phone. However, many schools have banned phone use in the campus. In my opinion, this is a positive improvement that can assist better learning and teaching as well as social equality.

Restrict phone use in the classroom itself can help improve learning and teaching. If students are allowed to use their phones, it will be inevitable that they will keep checking their phones for messages or playing games. This leads to the distractions so they may not follow the lesson and get low mark. Similarly, teachers have to pause the lecture to remind their students to pay attention and it takes time of everyone. Therefore, phone use restriction helps students to maintain long- term concentration and have better academic progress.

Phone use rules also reduce discrimination or social inequality. People nowadays tend to judge people by their appearance and their possessions. Some students with financial difficulty may feel not confident because their phone are out of date compared to others. Besides, they are divided into wealthy and poor group according to their types of phone. As a result, social discrimination happens. Restrict phone use is an effective way to reduce the frequency of this issue.

In conclusion, many schools ban the phone use because they think it is good for all students and teachers. In fact, restrict phone use brings many academic benefits as well as the social one. Mobile phone can be a useful tool providing a wide range of materials but using it at school seems to offer students more distractions than advantages. I think that students'phone use should be limited in order for them to learn better and strengthen friendship.
