Topic :More and more people are migrating to cities in search of a better life, but city life can be extremely difficult. Explain some of the difficulties of living in a city. How can governments make urban life better for everyone?
It has been a norm that there is a remarkable increase of the number of people who are flocking to large metropolises in hope of a better future. The challenges of residing in urban areas and several measures that authorities could take to improve the quality of life for all city residents will be much discussed in this essay.
There is a host of problems that citizens may have to deal with when they reside in a major city. Firstly, quality of air has been deteriorating due to the significant rise in the amount of toxic emissions released from power plants and industrial sites in recent decades. As the result, more and more city inhabitants may suffer from dangerous respiratory diseases such as lung cancer, asthma attacks or Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD).Secondly, the cost of living is constantly rising and usually much higher in big cities compared with rural areas, which can cause great damage to the citizens, especially low-income people. Those economically disadvantaged people sometimes have to undergo hardships and are barely able to meet their basic needs.
There are a number of approaches that urban policymakers can implement to tackle the problems mentioned above. First, the governments should impose more stringent laws that ban the emission of wastes from factories directly into the air , in order to improve the quality of air in the big cities.Consequently, less air pollution can guarantee the good health of citizens. Second, stricter actions should be taken against hoarders and black marketers manipulating market prices, under the relevant legal provisions, so as to ensure that products reach the markets in a timely manner to moderate the prices. As the result, citizens could easily afford their needy products, which is more reasonably priced.
In conclusion, various actions could be taken in order to solve prohibitively price and air pollution, which are the two main problems facing urban life.
