Essay topics: Some people think that the best way to increase road safety is to increase the minimum legal age for driving cars or riding motobikes. To what extend do you agree or disagree?

Setting a higher age required for utilizing cars or motorbikes has evolved as a major concern of today’s society. While I agree that increasing the minimum age required for driving is not the will create a contribution to keeping roadways be always safe, I contend that this regulator is far from being the best remedy.

On the one hand, I concede that a higher age obligated for using vehicles may be beneficial in some ways. Initially, the older road users are more likely to be mature and careful when driving than the young. To more specific, based on a recognized study of Yale University in 2015, the proportion of teenagers who broke the traffic laws while driving is 88%; meanwhile, this percentage of people whose ages were more than 25, is only 22%. Furthermore, increasing the age required for driving is an effective measure to reduce the number of traffic accident. Thanks to this regulator, teenagers can have more time for practicing their driving skill and have more awareness of traffic accident repercussions. As a result, society could eliminate a number of accidents caused by poor driving skill.

On the other hand, I am firmly convinced that raising the legal age for utilizing vehicles is not the best measurement to fully protect road safety. Firstly, the law of banning permanently traffic law-breakers should be imposed by the government in order to resolve this problem. By the mentioned remedy, a large number of traffic violations could be eliminated and authorities are able to raise citizens’ awareness about obeying traffic laws. Secondly, another solution is to encourage residents to take advantage of public transportations. As a result, the number of private vehicles will decrease and it also means fewer accidents could be made.

To conclude, I accept that increasing the legal age for driving could have some advantages. Nevertheless, I am the opinion that this solution is not the best when comparing with other remedies.
