Topic: There are more workers to work from home and more students to study from home. This is because computer technology is more and more easily accessible and cheaper. Do you think it is a positive or negative development?

My essay:

The rapid progression of telecommunication technology had paved the way for the growing popularity of distance learning and telecommuting alike. From my perspective, students and workers can greatly reap the benefits of this development.

Perhaps the greatest bonus of the e-learning and online working is the greater flexibility they offer. Students and employees are able to manage their time on their own and strike a balance between work and rest. This, in turn, helps workers be spared the nine-to-five rigidity that most white-collar ones are subject to, and thus relieving them from stress as well as boosting their productivity. As regards leaners, it enables them to create a timetable in line with their needs and characteristics. Unlike traditional class-based learning, lectures in Internet-based learning are often recorded in the form of videos with detailed explanations and are always available for a review, therefore, students hardly would miss any lesson due to unexpected situations.

Another advantage of telecommuting and study via e-courses is that it eliminating distance obstacles. For instance, the distance between the workplace and the place of residence has never ceased to be a problem for parents with childcare responsibilities and those with disabilities. By allowing employees to work at home, employers probably can widen the base from which they recruit and boost the chances of capitalizing on rich human capital. Similarly, online education is a particularly sensible option for those students who live far away from the school or those with physical handicaps, who have great difficulties in commuting to the school campus.

In conclusion, there are plenty of advantages to online working and learning in terms of flexibility and convenience.
