Research indicates that the characteristics we are born with have much more influence on our personality and development than any experiences we may have in our life.

Which do you consider to be the major influence?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Many surveys, researches in human psychology and mental development have been implemented. The results, which are published in the media, ignite a public debate about which factor has a great impact on the characteristics of one person. Two factors are mainly considered : nature factor, which relates genetic inheriting; and another is nurture factor relating the environment. A cluster of people side with the first reason.

According to the general knowledge, we can notice twins inherit the same genes. With assumption, after divorce, they were separated and raised in different circumstances. After a period of time, they would have disparate characteristics. In fact, plenty of surveys confirm this assumption, and give evidences for resisting the first factor.

But in my perspective, I believe that there are no major influence in the progress of human characteristics. Both the traits we inherit from parents and the surrounding we live in strongly effect on shaping our personalities. They do not resist each other but do co-operate. If the nature factor deciding human characteristics, we could predict exactly which personality a newborn baby will have. But up to now, our modern science still can not do such thing. On the other hand, if nurture factor dominated the situation, all people in the same place would have the same hobbies, thoughts and perception. Reality has proved that can not be true.

In conclusion, we should comprehend that the combination of these two factors has powerful effects on the characteristics we have. Yet how they interact is still unknown and scientists are attempting to give public a persuasively answer.
