Over the past decades, ethics have become centre of criticism as erosion of traditional value has become serious. Many adopt a view that truth is essential and should be respected at all time; however, to the best of my knowledge falsehood, untruth is necessary on many occasions, providing every-inch solutions in real life context.
Firstly, it is important to recognized that “politeness costs little but yields much”. Traditionally, people are tough to tell lies, while lies to show sympathy or goodwill to listeners such lying is acceptable, understandable. A telling example is concealing past of truth of cancers from patients. Not only does it give patients peaceful frame of mind but also gives them good condition to recover from treatment. In other words, twisting the facts sometime is not unethical but immoral in complex situation that are hardly measured at first time.
Secondly, exaggeration and downplaying of facts has accompanied as a part of their life. For example, banters are widely used to complement the host on food that they prepare, although the meal is not enjoyable. Exaggeration or jokes are important facts for effective communications. Otherwise, speaking something straightforward is usually trigger for discomfort, distress. Therefore, the distinction between lies and white lies are hardly clear-cut, people should accept lies if they are encouraged for social purpose.
Notwithstanding mentioned arguments, honestly and consistency to truth are the core virtues in many countries. At an old saying decades that “truth sometimes better be said” compliance with the fact is hard tough, but in the long run, disclosing all aspects of the truth is beneficial, providing people accurate picture, recite information for solution. Furthermore, falsehood is stepping-stone for the formation of bad habits.
In conclusion, it is generally accepted that in exceptional cases people should tell lies, provided that doesn’t hurt people’s feeling. Otherwise, the truth should be defended
