For centuries, important parts of education have remained such as reading, writing and maths. With the advent of computers, some people think that computer skill may be made as fourth skill to be added to the list.

To what extent do you agree?

My essay

It is a common belief that rather than core subjects such as reading ,maths and writing, computer skills should be prioritized in the curriculum at school. I completely agree with this view for several reasons.

The first argument given to support my opinion is that computer skills help students have better job prospects. Firstly, due to the high pace of modern life, the use of computers is more and more popular in most future jobs. This means that students who learn computer skills are more likely to meet their future job requirements and have the ability to land well-paid jobs which leads to a better quality of life. Moreover, if students get exposed to computers from a young age, they can have easier assessments of technologies which are often related to computers. For example, in order to utilize a print machine, people have to know how to use a computer to activate it.

Another reason why I hold this view is that with the educational paradigm which includes computer skills, students have a wide array of subjects and therefore make wiser decisions in their future career. For instance, students who have a gift for computers, are able to access computers and end up becoming distinguished in their profession which is related to computers such as software engineers, web developers. From the social point of view, such an education system allows students to be more creative, great mental agility and this plays a critical role in the society’s growth and prosperity.

In conclusion, I strongly believe that computers should be added to the educational paradigm because of the reasons given above.
