[WRITING TASK 1] The chart below gives information about three different crimes in England and Wales from 1970 to 2005. Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The provided line graph depicts the number of 3 specific crimes, namely car theft, house burglar and street robbery in England and Wales from 1970 to 2005.

As is observed from the graph, car theft was the most committed crime in the two regions. In 1970, this category witnessed a total of roughly 18000 cases in both England and Wales. After 25 years, its figure reached the highest point at approximately 33000 cases before slipped back to around 27000 charges in 2005. Following the same pattern, street robbery experienced a steady rise over time, ending at 12000 cases, which was double than the former figure.

On the other hand, house burglary showed a slight variation over the period. Starting at just below 10000 cases, it then accelerated to 12000 charges in 25 years’ time. From 1995 onward, the number of house burglary declined dramatically, which stood at about 7000 cases.

In brief, the figure of car theft and street robbery showed an upward trend while that of house burglar experienced an erratic tendency over the span.
