Writing Task 1: Table data

The table below gives information on consumer spending on different items in five different countries in 2002.

Percentage of national consumer expenditure by category - 2002

The table data shows the proportion of consumer expenditure by category from five different countries in the year 2002. At the first glance it is clear, in 2002, the highest percentage of national consumer spending was on food, drinks and tobacco; and expenditure on leisure and education had the lowest percentage.

Now, turning to the details, out of five countries, Turkey was the country which had the highest consumer expenditure on food/drinks and tobacco, at over 32%, and on leisure/education, at over 4%. Moreover, consumer expenditure on clothing and footwear in Turkey was also quite high, at 6.63%.

By constrast, consumer spending on items in Sweden accounted for smallest minorities, at 15.77% on food/drinks and tobacco, and at nearly 5.5% on clothing/footwear. However, expenditure on leisure and education in Sweden occupied to a large proportion in comparison with other countries, at 3.22%.

Meanwhile, despite of not having the majority consumer spending on food/drinks and tobacco and leisure/education, Italy was the country which had the highest consumer spending on clothing and footwear, at 9%.
