Writing Task 1 - Process

The diagram below shows the manufacturing process for making sugar from sugar cane. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The sketch of plan illustrates how sugar is manufactured from sugar cane. In general, it can be seen that there are several steps in this process, beginning with the growth of sugar cane and ending with draining and refrigerating.

To commence with, it initially takes a period of 12 – 18 months for the cultivation of sugar canes at the farm. After that, these are normally collected in two common ways by using a machine that provides an automatic way of harvesting sugar canes or by manually. Before refining and filtering other substances, the cut-down sugar canes are put into the crusher to extract the juice.

Subsequently, the gathered juice is in the dissolving step which thickens it to produce syrup. In the next step, it is then put into the centrifuge which helps remove sugar crystals out of syrup. Finally, these crystals must be dried and cooled in order to meet the required standards to be ready for sale.
