The pie charts illustrate how water is used in six different regions of the world. Overall, most of the water in North America and Europe is used for industry, while in the four remaining areas, the highest percentages of water consumption belong to agriculture.
The proportions of water used in industry are largest in North America and Europe, at 48% and 53% respectively. Meanwhile, the figures in other regions are just from 5% to 12%. In terms of domestic use, South America consumes 19% of total water, followed by Europe and North America, with 15% and 13% respectively. The percentages of water used for domestic purpose are under 10% in Africa, Central Asia and South East Asia. In contrast, these three regions use the highest percentages of water for agriculture which are 84%, 88%, 81% respectively. This figure for South America is a bit lower, standing at 71%. Finally, water used for crops in North America and Europe is around half that of South America, at 39% and 32% respectively.
