The chart illustrates the proportion of young adults in UK following a diet for vegan.
Overall, there was an upward trend in the percentage of young adults following a vegan diet over 50 years of the period and it's forecast to keep increasing in the percentage of UK young vegetarian in the last 10 years of the period.
It can be seen from the chart that in 1960 there was no adolescents wating to follow a vegetarian diet whereas the figure increased rapidly within 20 years and peaked at just over 15% in 1980. A period of time witnessed an sharp decrease in the proportion of young adults following vegetarian diet from 1980 to 1990 before fluctuating considerably around 5% from 1980 to 2000.
In contrast, the pattern was reversed from 2000 to 2010 when the proportion of UK adolescents having a vegan diet rose markedly to about 10% in 2010. However, the percantage of UK young vegans is predicted to level out at just over 10% between 2010 and 2020.
