A glance at two pie charts provided reveals the popularity of several different recreational activities among European adults in 1985 and 1995.
Overall, watching TV was the most widely enjoyed in the period of ten years, while other activites constituted the lowest percentage.
Despite falling slightly from 32 per cent in 1985 to 30 per cent in 1995, watching TV still stood at the highetst proportion in both years. Besides, there was a marked increase in the number of people playing games. The figure of 27 per cent in 1995 only followed the percentage of watching TV, whereas no one rated it as their preferred leisure activity in 1985. It also can be seen that talking with friends made up 26 per cent in 1995, compared to the 1985 figure was 5 per cent higher.
In stark contrast, all other activities declined, in 1985 and 1995, the number were 6 per cent and 2 per cent, respectively. Talking with family, staying at the second common place in 1985, accounting for 18 per cent dropped sharply to 7 per cent in 1995. Likewise, the figure for eating out in 1995 was considerably lower than that in 1985, plunging from 23 per cent to 8 per cent.
