The bar chart illustrates the proportion of 2 groups accommodation at the middle-aged in England between 2004 and 2014.
Overall, the percent of homeowners underwent a downward trend, while the opposite was true for that of renters over 11 years. The figure of homeowners initially trebled that of renters, it was outraced in the last 2 years.
The number of homeowners aged 25-34 peaked at the highest point in 2004, at nearly 60%. In the next three years, it had a slight fluctuation with the figure being around 56%. From 2008 onward, the proportion of homeowners went down and reached the lowest point in 2014. In contrast, the figure of renters within this age range climbed significantly from 20% to about 57%. Especially in 2013 and 2014, it surpassed the number of homeowners at nearly 5% and 11% respectively. That means that people have a tendency to hire a house instead of owing.
