The maps below show the changes that have taken place at Queen Mary Hospital since its construction in 1960.Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant. Write at least 150 words. The map gives information on structural placement of Queen Mary Hospital at three different stages in its development: 1960, 1980 and 2000.Overall, Queen Mary Hospital building area remained unchanged throughout the 40-year period. In addition, it has become more and more specialized in providing health services.In 1960, the hospital was built close to a main road and next to a shopping centre. A large area behind the hospital was turned into a car park, while the area behind the shopping centre was farmland. In 1980, the shopping center was demolished to construct a pharmacy and a cancer centre. The next 20 years witnessed a significant expansion of the cancer centre while the pharmacy’s design was kept.On the other hand, the hospital has undergone no change since its construction, but the 1960s farmland was replaced by a nursing school in 1980. By contrasts, the size of the car park remained the same during 1980s. By 2000, however, the car park was halved to make room for the nursing school. The land is the same. We build buildings on land, changing the way it is used. ) nursing school in 1980. By contrasts, (wrong form) the size of the car park remained the same during the 1980s. (You have no evidence of this. There are no maps for 1981, 1982, 1983... , so you cannot tell what happened in all those years. ) By 2000, however, the car park was halved to make room for the nursing school. That is not correct. The nursing school and the parking lot were smaller.)

In 1960, the hospital was built on Main Road next to a shopping centre. A large area behind the hospital, provided parking, and the area behind the shopping centre was farmland. The land area of each of these four (hospital, shopping centre, car park and farm land) was approximately the same.

By 1980, the shopping center had been torn down to make room for a pharmacy and a cancer centre. The total area of these two buildings was about the same as the hospital. The pharmacy was situated between the other two buildings. In addition, the farmland behind the shopping centre had been incorporated into the hospital complex. It is now the site of a nursing school. There was no change in the car park.

By 2000, the cancer centre had tripled in size, at the expense of the nursing school and car park, which were half the size that they were twenty years earlier.
