Writing task 1

The illustrations indicate salmon's cycle of life, which is categorized among the large fish, in three stages.

Firstly, due to the slow movement of water in the upper river, salmon eggs get a chance to attach to small stones which are located close to reeds. They spend around 5 to 6 months there. Then, fries that are about 3 to 8 cm grow out of those eggs. They move to the fast-moving lower river afterwards and live there for an approximate four-year period. After this duration, they have grown to about one-fifth of the size of adult salmon's (12 to 15 cm) and are called smolts. Smolts spend about five years in open sea and reach maturity soon after. Adult salmons, which are more than 70 cm long, begin mating and breeding. The female salmons, then, lay their eggs near the reeds and another cycle begins.

Over all, it is clear that salmons need about nine and a half years to reach adulthood and in this period of time they grow from fries (3-8 cm each) to adults salmons (70-76 cm each). In addition, salmon lives in three different areas in its life namely: upper river, lower river and open sea.
