Birth rates in China and USA

The line graph provided indicates changes in the birth statistics of China and the USA from 1920 to 2000.

Overall, the birth rates in both countries fell considerably over the period given. American’s birth rate witnessed a less fluctuation than the figure for China.

It can be illustrated from the graph, there was a moderate variation of the birth rate in China, between 5 percent and 10 percent over 10 year-period and this rate peaked 2 times at 10 percent in 1935 and 1950. By contrast, the figure for the USA was around approximately 12.5 percent between 1920 and 1940, followed by a remarkable drop to 5 percent in the year of 1945 before peaking at 20 percent in 1950.

The birth rates of China and the USA plummeted towards the end of the period, going from 15 percent to merely 7 percent and from 20 percent to roughly 2 percent respectively. However, the remainding period experienced a larger dip of the birth rate in the USA than in China.
