Hi, thanks for spending time with me here. I appreciate that you made efforts and gave me valuable advice on my clumsy writing. I'm learning from my mistakes, and from your feedback as well. Have a lovely day!
Task 2: Some people suggest that a country should try to produce all the food for its population and import as little food as possible. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Some people argue that one country should gain an autarky in terms of food production as much as possible. This school of thought contrasts with mine, as I believe that striving for food self-sufficiency only restrains the growth of society.
First and foremost, the negative impact exists in the economic aspect as initiatives on food importation are among the most common conditions in any trade agreement. At its nature, this is a win-win situation when country A imports food from country B and vice versa. It will do more harm than good for country A if it refuses to do so, as the retaliation from country B would lead to a great loss for its income from exports.
Second, the scenario that a country can provide its population all the needed food might only happen in the wildest dreams. In no country do the soil and climate suit for growing all kinds of flora and fauna. Without the exchange between countries, people in one country are limited in their food choice. People in this country may suffer from not only the nutritious imbalance but also cuisine isolation. For example, Britain stopped importing bananas in 1940, and when they undid that in 1945, hundreds of children, most of whom had never seen or heard of a banana before, had to be shown how to eat a banana.
In conclusion, I am convinced that to replace importing food with the attempts to grow all kinds of food on its own only draws negative influence on the development of one country.
