Hi, thanks again for spending time helping me. I look forward to receiving advice and feedback from you. Have a lovely day!
Task 2: In many countries, imprisonment is the most common solution to crimes. However, some people believe that better education will be a more effective solution. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
It is believed that the better choice to solve the crime problem is to improve education, not imprisonment. This point of view contrasts with mine since I am convinced that the latter offers much more certainty on maintaining society’s order.
First and foremost, imprisonment brings about immediate, apparent impacts. Criminals are arrested, sentenced, and somehow made to pay for their actions. Being caught means they are right away isolated from society and cannot harm the community anymore. Education, on the other hand, is a riskier bet on people’s manners. Education hopes they will make a more moral choice based on what they have learned, which is not always the case. It is not uncommon to see lawbreakers have flawless backgrounds with degrees from famous academic institutions.
Secondly, imprisonment targets right at the fear of punishment inside each person. Fears are among the strongest motivations that drive humans’ behavior. Moreover, regardless of what some people may argue, the potential ethnic punishments appearing from a proper education pose much less of a threat to people, at least compared to legal ones.
In conclusion, considering those characteristics of imprisonment, I strongly believe that our attention and effort should be on this specific crime-solving method, not education.
