Some people say that music is a good way of bringing people of different cultures and ages together. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
It is argued that people are able to use music as a tool to eliminate the barriers of traditional difference and generation gap. Personally, I partly agree with this statement as music can merely reduce cultural differences.
On the one hand, the world is changing so fast, along with music taste between generations. Indeed, after a generation, music style can be totally different from the past period, not only in how it is produced but also in the way it reflects the society. For example, 20 years ago, people often used traditional instruments to create slow-pace melodies. However, now it is common for people to make fast-pace melodies using electrical elements and more straightforward lyrics which expose some negative sides of society. As a result, for those who are old or conservative, they find it unacceptable and hard to understand this change. That is how age is still an unsolved problem when it comes to enjoying music.
On the other hand, in this era of globalisation, people have more tendency to discover other cultures and music is a key factor to eliminate the barriers of traditional difference. The sensation of BTS, a korean male group which attracts many people’ attention regardless of their region, is a great example of this. Even though it is quite hard for an individual to understand the whole meaning behind lyrics, the melody is neutral. In other words, an American who has no firsthand experience about Korean culture is still capable of enjoying BTS’s songs through the feeling-connection ability of humans.
In conclusion, although music is a good way of bringing people all over the cultures closer together, it has little influence on reducing generational disparity.
Thanks for helping me.
