The line graph shows changes in the number of burglaries, car thefts, and robberies occurring in the center of Newport city between 2003 and 2012.

It is clear that burglaries took place significantly less throughout the period. Meanwhile, at the end of the period, the numbers of car thefts and robberies saw little changes compared to their starting points.

In 2003, there were about 700 incidents of robbery happened, while the figures for burglary and car theft were around fourfold to fivefold, at nearly 2800 and 3400 incidents respectively. Burglary reached its peak at almost 3800 incidents in 2004 but decreased gradually until being equal to the figure of car theft in the middle of 2006. Between 2004 and 2006, the number of car thefts reduced almost by a factor of 1.4. On the other hand, robberies saw a slight fluctuation until nearly reached the 2003 value again at the end of the period.

From 2006 to 2012, car thefts fluctuated but maintained an upward trend as the figure stood at about 2800 in 2012, 1.8 times as high as the 2006 value. By contrast, the number of burglaries dropped significantly between 2006 and 2008 then remained fairly stable throughout the rest of the period. Meanwhile, until 2012 did the figure for robberies show little change compared to the number of 2006, at about 600 incidents.
