Colombia, on the other hand, maintained its position throughout the period.In 2002, the amounts of coffee exported from Brazil and Costa Rica were around 2.4 to 3 times higher, at about 12 million tonnes and 15 million tonnes respectively, compared to only 5 million tonnes from Colombia. Costa Rica exported equally to Colombia in 2005, after a decline from the same amount as Brazil in 2003. The period between 2003 and 2006 also showed an upward trend in the exported amount of coffee from Brazil and Colombia.The amounts of Colombia and Costa Rica crossed again at the end of 2006 with around 9 million tonnes, while the figure for Brazil continued to increase and reached 20 million tonnes. In 2008, Colombia hit a low of under 2.5 million tonnes, while Brazil and Costa Rica kept raising their amounts. At the end of the period, due to the increasing amounts of all three countries, the total amount was approximately 60 million tonnes, about 300% of the total in 2002.
