Many believe that learning the science of food and how to prepare it are necessary for students. Others consider learning important subjects during school time would be a reasonable choice. In my perspective, I think that students can manage to learn mandatory subjects as well as get themselves prepared with other essential skills such as cooking and food science.
Inevitably, important subjects should be mandatory to students. Maths, English, Computer Science, Literature or History,....are subjects that are fundamental to everyone. These subjects create a solid background of knowledge for people and can help them catch up with a constantly changing world. The more students learn and dig deeply into these subjects, the better career opportunities they can have in the future such as teachers, IT staff, writers,....
On the other hand, learning food science and cooking can help students gain lots of benefits. Food science gives information about different needed nutritions. Students can choose food and beverage products based on its nutritional values. For instance, they can look for the nutrient contents on food or beverage packaging and analyze the amount of fat, carbohydrates,...which can be beneficial or harmful for their health. Learning how to cook is also one of several survival skills that even primitive people had to learn. During the current situation of the pandemic and all the restaurants are shut down, cooking at home is the best and safest choice.
In general, besides learning important subjects at school, students should also learn the food science and cooking in order to gain various skills. These skills can make them confident and fearless in a demanding modern world.
