Topic: The continued rise in the world’s population is the greatest problem faced by humanity at the present time. What are the causes of this continued rise? Do you agree that it is the greatest problem faced by humanity?
Nowadays, there is an increasingly widespread concern that humans are having to face the problem of population growth. Personally, I agree that this is the greatest issue of the whole civilization, and believe that the main cause of this phenomenon is humans’ superstitions.
The overpopulation stems from traditional thoughts of people. Many people still hold a belief that boys are much better than girls. For example, these days, in many Asian countries, gender discrimination has become common. A lot of families would prefer a boy to a girl. Therefore, most of them try to give birth until they have a son. Consequently, this has significantly affected the world’s population. According to a study of scientists in Vietnam, there have been thousands of families losing control of their birth, with over 10 children per family on average every year. Additionally, lots of parents believe that having many children in a family makes their home happier. Obviously, these wrong views of humans are the main culprit of the increase in global population.
In my opinion, this phenomenon is the greatest problem for humanity. The boom in population is mainly responsible for several disasters in the world, which has been seriously affecting people’s life. First of all, population overshoot leads to a greater amount of carbon footprint, causing the rise in temperature of the Earth. As a result, natural disasters such as droughts or floods happen more often, leading to the destruction of facilities and crops. Recently, in many South Asian countries, a large number of people have been suffering from famine and homelessness. Clearly, the fast-growing population brings various problems to mankind.
In conclusion, I believe that humans’ conventional beliefs are the main cause of overpopulation, which is the most serious problem that all human beings have to deal with.
