Fewer and fewer people walk on a daily basis. What are the reasons and how to encourage them to spend their time walking? (12/09/2015).
It is widely argued that people are less likely to be enthusiastic about walking regularly. While there are a number of reasons behind this phenomenon, several solutions should be adopted to solve the problem.
To begin with, there are primary reasons why people don’t spend their time walking any more. Firstly, the availability of technology advances enables people to walk less than they used to do in the past. For example, people prefer to take elevators, escalators or cable cars instead of travelling on foot. This is due to the fact that thanks to these state-of-the-art technology, human beings are capable of saving their time significantly and boost their energy after work or school in comparison with walking. Secondly, in hectic and busy society, people are mostly occupied by a great deal of?okload in the workplace , so they tend to work overtime. Therefore, they can’t manage their time successfully in order to walk in the morning as a way of doing exercise.
Nevertheless, some feasible measures could be put into practice to combat this worrying trend. One step is that the government can motivate people to walk by employing mainstream media such as TV, radio or newspapers as a major form to inform them substantial health and environmental benefits of travelling. Another efficient measure that the authorities can do to trigger walking is they expand sidewalks, build more parks and walking streets so that residents can have more space to walk. One more solution can be that schools are able to make walking an integral part of pupils’ lives by foster their parents to allow their children to walk to school instead of traveling by school bus. However, schools have to ensure providing safe walking routes for students.
In conclusion, some reasons why people are no longer interested in walking can be measured, and some practical solutions should be implemented to encourage them to walk more.
