The mentioned diagram depicts how ethanol fuel is produced from corn. From an overall perspective, there are nine steps in the making of maize- based ethanol, which can be merged into three stages. Corn is undergone various physical and biological processes under different conditions, the product of which is stored and eventually delivered to gas station.
At the first stage of the process, corn is harvested and stored in warehouses. The next step begins when corn is delivered to factory and grounded by the use of a turbine- driven mill. Thereafter the ground corn, with the addition of the amount of water, is cooked within four hours in a cylindrical device before being fermented in another set of cylinders. The mixture is left for fermentation for 2 days (48 hours) and subsequently liquidized, with solid wastes being released as by-products. The liquidized substance, now called ethanol, is further purified under laboratory conditions for another 5 hours. Coming to the final stages of the process, ethanol is stored in large containers and eventually transported to gas stations.
