Some psychologists say that same interests and same personalities are unnecessary to establish a lasting relationship. Do you agree or disagree?

As far as psychologists are concerned, same interests and same personalities are longer the key elements to maintain a long-lasting relationship. While I agree that people are not necessary to share the same interests or personality, common features between people still play a role in keeping a relationship due to the lower chance of raising an argument it might bring.

Even when people do not share the same interests and personalities, they can still establish a lasting bond. In this case, people tend to listen to others rather than express their own perspectives. This is a form of learning and respecting the opposite person, which helps maintain a relationship. Simultaneously, learning in this way, for instance, from a friend, is more intriguing than learning from books and schools, this also stimulates people to connect the knowledge in their own interests or fields with the topic being discussed. Moreover, should we be patient and empathize, we will always be able to make friends with the one who do not share the same personality with us. Consequently, same personalities and interests are irrelevant factors in forming a lasting relationship.

On the other hand, different interests or personalities might be an obstacle in holding a relationship. When people do not have sufficient concerns and excitement to listen to a new topic, a conversation between them is likely to come to an end with disappointment. For example, a specialized student in Mathematics wanted to share his new solution for a math problem with his friend who is a specialized student in History, both of them do not know anything about the other's subject. Eventually, the guy studies History did not understand the math problem and neglected his friend. In other situations, not having the same interests or personalities can even lead to arguments due to the disagreement in opinion about issues and the conception of life.

In conclusion, in order to establish a lasting relationship, people should respect and be patient with each other.
