WRITING FEEDBACK

Some people believe that young people know about international pop and movie stars but know very less about famous people from the history in their own country. Why is this? How can more interest be created in young people to gain more knowledge about their own famous people from history?

It is irrefutable that nowadays people are flooded with information about everything. The youth these days tend to be interested in global celebrities but are increasingly ill-informed about their own historical figures. This essay will analyse the reasons to this issue and also suggest some measures.

The causes of why youngsters are becoming ignorant about national history can be attributed to several reasons. To begin with, social media contributes greatly to young people's interest in pop and movie stars. In fact, the entertainment industry has been developing so rapidly that famous people’s lives are grabbing the headlines of most newspapers. Teenagers today spend a great deal of time on the Internet, thus are likely to become fastinated about such topics. Moreover, the test-based education system in many countries has further made history a tedious and boring subject. Students only focus on getting good grades and passing the exams, therefore they barely grow interest in past heroes and events.

There are various solutions that can be adopted to enhance young people's knowledge of historical figures in their country. First, innovating education by incorporating technology in teaching methods will considerably arouse students’ interests in history lessons. Also, schools can organise extracurricular trips to famous or local historical sites to diversify learning activities for students. Furthermore, investment in TV shows and movies made based on renowned past events and figures and their contribution should be taken into consideration. It is no doubt that young people will pay more attention to history lectures if they include both entertaining and educational contents.

In conclusion, the prevalence of celebrities on massive media and test-based education system have led to the preference of pop and movie stars to historical events and people amongst youngsters. However, changing educational methods and creating more appealing learning activites are some promising solutions to this problem.
