Writing error

am sorry i have to analyze my students errors in order to provide the best exercise for their improvement.

one of the errors was writing /allowded/ as the past tense for the verb /allow/ instead of /allowed/

what's the definition of this error and why did the student do it ?and what can be the best exercise to help the student improving in it?

another error was pronouncing the verb /think/ with an 's' and sayin /sink/

any help?

thanks in advance

I'm sorry, but I cannot think of any word to define the mistake with 'alloweded'-- it is just a slip of the tongue, it seems to me. No exercise is needed; just explain to the student what has happened (the student has duplicated the -ed ending in error). The pronunciation of /th/ as /s/ is a common one; it happens with many learners who do not have the /th/ sound in their native language.

  • Drill /th/ words: The thieves thought they had been thorough.
  • They'll be through by this Thursday.
