Writing culinary recipe 4

While or during preparations of salad, add the vinegar to it.


Is this beginning of this sentence correct?


Or should I write "while you are preparing a salad, add the vinegar to it. "


It is part of recipe. Not sure if I can use tense present continuous writing culinary recipe.
