Writing and sketches

She thought while drinking her tea that if just looking at writings and sketches is this much fun, how much fun it will be to be able to read and sketch.

Is the use of 'writing' correct here, please? Would you please suggest a better word. By 'writing' in the sentence I mean anything that is written on a page.

Thanks in advance.

  • Note that when you say 'looking at writings' (or 'looking at writing', which is a little better), you are describing something that an illiterate person might do.
  • It's not the same as reading.
