Writing an essay on concrete imagery of A Rose for Emily

I am writing an essay analizing a short story. We are having to use literary terms and I want to make sure I am on the right track. Here is what I have so far: William Faulkner once said, “Given the choice between the experience of pain and nothing, I would choose pain.” This concept is portrayed in his story “A Rose for Emily”. Faulkner’s use of concrete imagery helps create the theme of this story through the protagonist’s character, place, and time. I am kind of confused about the different types of imagery but I want to tie in Emily's character, her house, and Faulkner's imagery of time. They all work together with the same dark, dusty, decaying imagery throughout the whole story. Does any of this make sense?
