writing a novel

hey guys. I started writing a story six months ago, and I was really excited about it, because I found a way to express my thoughts through fictional characters. but then I stopped writing and lost the file.. it's a shame. but looking back to the my work, I did some really good description passages and I expressed beautiful thoughts but the events were slow, I could say that when I first started, I didn't plan to write events. wich turned out to be a bad idea!! I was reading an artical today about "how to write a noval" and I discovered that the problem Is that I didn't have a conflict to begin with.
what I want to ask is: if I'm trying to write something deep and thoughtful (not thrilling or exciting) and I already have the thoughts and Ideas that I want to plug in, how can I find the appropriate events and characters that would actually be the story? any thought or idea might help me with my new project. I just want to express some moralities not more
regards
