Writing a letter, wondering if phrase is OK

Is this sentence OK?
and is the WHETHER part ok, can you use WHETHER like this?
  • I am writing you as I am looking for a position in a modeling agency, whether a booking position or an other position consisting of updates/updating for your internet site, editing pictures, etc which is what I was hired to do previously at a another modeling agency in LA.

When could you use WHETHER?

Could you say?

1 Whether a secreterial job or a blue collar job, I'll turn the offer down.
2 Whether black or red, I'll have to say no to those colors.

Why can't you use WHETHER in my above sentence but EITHER.

Why can't you use WHETHER in my above sentence but EITHER.-- Because 'whether' suggests a carelessness that is very inappropriate to a letter seeking employment!
