Writing a diary

I wonder, what tense shall we use when we write a diary? You see, whatever is in the diary is already past, but sometimes it confuses me. I ever read an article from a diary which is in pure present tense. Thanks

Your diary is a personal item, and can be written in any tense you like. A single entry can tell what you did earlier, what you are doing now, and what you are going to do in the future.

You can use whicheve tense you want.

Usually a combination of past and present. Today James smiled at me in math. I wonder what that means? I really like him. But then he smiled at Mary... so maybe it doesn't mean anything.
