Writing a dedication

I'm drawing a picture that I want to dedicate to a friend of mine. What's the proper way to write the dedication if I want to point out that I'm the author?

I'm thinking: "To {my friend's name} by {my name}.", but I'm not sure if that's correct.

I am not sure that there is any "proper" way to do this although I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong. If you are the artist of the drawing then it would conventional to sign and date the drawing. This makes it clear that you are the artist.

  • Another way would be to write a short note to your friend: I drew this for you.
