Letter Writing

Writing a Business Proposal?

Hello,

I am a writer; usually write product reviews, magazine articles, newsletters, brochures, marketing/advertising materials, blog post and consultant other authors for their publications. Recently I was just asked to write what I would assume to be a business proposal; exact wording from the prospective employer was to write "An Outline of how I could improve their existing business as an employee." The employer has my cover letter, resume', reference letter, my sample writing portfolio of published works which are all very detailed and well written. This job has a lot to do with my skills as a writer, and my marketing & advertisement experience, plus management of most all aspects of retail and customer service based businesses. My two questions would be: 1.) "What exactly do you think the employer wants/expects and how to format such letter/proposal?" 2.) " How do I protect my Intellectual Property, as for to protect myself from having my business knowledge, ideas, experience, etc... from being used by the prospective employer without actually receiving the job?" I figured as in most cases a letter of interest, a cover letter, resume', and face to face interview will and should cover all of this. Thank you any help would be greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
Joseph Eichelberger

Hello Joseph, and welcome to the forums. Yours is a most interesting question and I would like to help, if I can. It is not clear what the prospective employer is seeking.

  • My first inclination is to ask if the question is properly worded and if it was written by a native English speaker.
  • How could you possibly know how to improve their existing business if you are not part of the company and are not privy to what needs improvement?
