Write me or write to me

Can someone please tell me which is correct? 'Write to me' or 'Write me'. 'Write me' somehow doesn't sound right to me unless you were saying 'write me a letter'. If 'write me' IS correct, then can you explain why is the 'to' left out?

As Clive says, write me is standard in American English. In British English many, perhaps most people say write to me. If an object is added, they, too, omit the preposition: Write me a letter.

Hi,

May I ask if you have read the earlier part of this thread? Are those comments not satisfactory to you?
