Essay & Composition Writing

Write about the following topic: Computers are often argued to be the most important invention of the last hundred years. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement? Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples...

There are divergent opinions about which invention in the past hundred years has had the greatest impact on mankind. Many people argue that computers have revolutionized our way of working and to some extent living. That’s why they consider it to be the most man-made object. I entirely seem to agree with this viewpoint.

Firstly, computers are used as a device to store information. As an example, only a lightweight computer around 700 gram can hold thousands or millions of images, book, newspaper articles, songs in a few minutes, instead of taking numerous time to record using other media. In addition, it is convenient to bring millions of books, digitized information to school, universities and the workplace. Furthermore, it making us search for storage information is more straightforward because it is sorted by separate categories.

Secondly, their incredible capacity to process data in a short time is a reason that makes computers become the most significant brainchild. Computers being like a combination of hundreds of scientists can make billions of calculations, no matter how difficult and complicated, in just a few seconds. Therefore, it avoids wasting time and leading to great efficiency fields such as business, medicine, engineering, and education. For instance, a businessman uses a computer to analyze millions of calculations about revenue, profit, and stocks.

In conclusion, it is impossible to think of any other machine or instrument which has impacted so much in our lives. Computers have become not only the part and parcel of our lives but also the significant driving force in our future studies.

It seems to me that to argue this properly one would need to consider at least one other contender, such as television or radio, or antibiotics. "The most important" implies from a number of contenders. It also leaves the exact criteria up for discussion, although difficult to cover all this properly in a couple of paragraphs.
