wrapped up

<A photographer just handed the young girls his business cards and asked them to contact him if they were interested in becoming a model>

Their teacher who was with them: I got them to give me his cards, and recommended they not get wrapped up in anything like that.

1. What's the meaning of wrapped up??
2. Should it be "recommended they DO not get wrapped up"?

Thanks.

1. in this context, it means get involved with. "Wrapped up" usually means "to finish", though, I would prefer to use "tied-up" in my own speech/writing.
